The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12-year-old Single Malt that, as its name suggests, undergoes a double maturation process in its production. Each stage of this aging imparts particular qualities to the Single Malt. It transitions from a traditional oak barrel to a first-fill Sherry cask. The traditional barrels soften and enhance its character, while the Sherry casks bring roundness and fullness.
With this process, Balvenie 12 Year Old DoubleWood is often described as "the roundest and most mellow of malts."
The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old won the trophy for the Single Malt Scotch 15 Years and Under category at the highly influential International Wine and Spirits Competition 2016 (IWSC).
